President’s Message

Dear NYSASN Members:

Each year the New York State Association of School Nurses canvasses its Board of Directors and membership for school nurses who can guide our organization in its mission. We seek school nurses who have shown their desire to “advance the practice of school nursing” and have demonstrated leadership qualities while serving on the Board of Directors or in their school and local communities. Our nominating committee completed their review process for 2022, and we are proud to present our President- Elect candidate, Jill Kenney from Zone 14. We are still seeking a candidate to run for office of Treasurer. All inquiries should be directed to Jacki O’Donnell, Past President at pastpresident@nysasn.org.

Please read Jill’s statement to get to know her and cast your vote. The online ballot is open from September 15th and closes October 15th at midnight. If you have not received an online ballot and you are an “active” member, please reach out to our webmaster via our website “contact us” for an online ballot.

On behalf of the NYSASN Board of Directors, thank you for voting.

Sincerely,

Geraldine Plechner, MSEd, BS, RN
NYSASN President

MEET OUR CANDIDATE

President-Elect Candidate Jill Kenney, Zone 14

My name is Jill Kenney and I have been a registered nurse for 33 years and have been a school nurse for 22 years. Currently I am the school nurse in Pine Valley Jr./Sr. High School in the Pine Valley Central School District with over 200 students in grades 7 through 12.

I earned an AAS degree in Nursing from Jamestown Community College in Chautauqua County. I have worked in Tri-County Hospital Gowanda New York as ICU Nurse, Medical Nurse, ER Nurse, Chemical Dependency Nurse, Cardiac Rehab Nurse, Recovery Room Nurse, and Supervisor.  When Tri County Hospital closed, I worked for Lakeshore Hospital, Irving, NY, as ER Nurse and Cardiac Rehab Nurse. I began working as a School Nurse at Pine Valley Central School District in 2000 while still working at the Hospital.

I have served the Far Western New York School Nurses Association Network, Zone 14 of NYSASN, as Secretary. I have belonged to NYSASN and NASN since 2000. I joined the NYSASN Board of Directors in March 2018 as Zone 14 Rep. I have done my best to keep my zone informed on what is going on at NYSASN. I have served on several committees during this time. I received recognition from the Chautauqua County Office of The County Executive as a “COVID-19 Hero” thanking me for my exemplary job during the COVID-19 Pandemic on February 17, 2021. This was given for continuing to work hard, keeping people informed, educated, and always going above and beyond for the students throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. I was further recognized for Excellence in School Nursing on November 1, 2019, from New York State School Nurse Association.

It would be an honor to serve as NYSASN’s President-Elect.

Sincerely,

Jill Kenney, AAS, RN
