Message from the NYSASN President
April 7, 2020
The COVID-19 Pandemic is a reality and is impacting our daily lives and our role as School Nurses. The daily care for students and our school communities has drastically changed in the past few weeks. I have been hearing from school nurses across the state about the great things that school nurses have been doing to meet the needs of their school communities. I want to thank you for stepping up to meet those needs. I also want to encourage you to take care of yourselves both physically and emotionally. You can find tips for managing stress at: https://omh.ny.gov/omhweb/guidance/covid-19-managing-stress-anxiety.pdf.
Please share what you are doing on the front lines to keep your communities safe, healthy, fed, and cared for. Send your stories and photos, if you have any with specifics (names, district, and Zone) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The situation is continuing to evolve. The following sites are providing continuous updates:
- New York State School Health Services has a page dedicated to COVID-19 and contains links to other recommended web resources: www.schoolhealthny.com/coronavirus.
- CDC web page and a hotline for questions specifically dedicated to addressing the Coronavirus: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/index.html.
- NASN is also closely monitoring COVID-19 advisories and updating NASN website resources accordingly: NASN Coronavirus 2019 webpage .
I wish you all the best as we face this pandemic together.
Lou Ann Gleason, MSN RN
