Advocacy is Part of NYSASN’s Mission

Advocacy is an important part of NYSASN as it gives a unified “voice “to our membership. The Advocacy Chairperson and its committee members provide oversight of the current bills brought before the New York State legislature that would affect the practice of School Nursing in the state. The details within a Bill are reviewed with a focus on how beneficial its impact would be on the health and safety of Students. From there, an informed decision is made as to whether NYSASN will support its passage. We then inform our members of the importance of contacting their NYS Assembly and State Senate Representatives and notify them of our support, or reasons why we are not in support, of the proposed legislation. We strongly believe that when School Nurses join together to express their opinion, their collective voices will have an effect on decisions made in Albany.

The New York State Association of School Nurses (NYSASN) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) encourage school nurses to collect and share data. To learn more about the program you can reach our State Data Coordinator, LouAnn Gleason, NYS NASN Director at nasn@nysasn.org and by visiting Every Student Counts!
