On November 6, 2018, Robyn Butlein RN, Lakeland Central School District, (far right) facilitated a “School Nurse Grand Rounds” with School Nurses of the Mount Pleasant School District along with Carol Bumbolow RN (not shown), who arranged for representatives from St. Vincent’s Hospital and the Mental Health Association to discuss hospitalization and school reentry. On the far right is Traci Holtz, Director of Pupil Personnel Services who also presented on DBT.

Janice McPhee MSN, RN, NCSN, taught classes “School Nurses: IHP/IEP and 504 plans.” Also the nurses’ roundtable on “Getting Your Voice Heard” How to have your voice heard, highlight your value, and your worth. The round table is a continuing discussion in the capital district. A fourth round table with be held in Fall 2018.
On 1/25/18, NYSASN Zone 4 and The Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth co-sponsored a conference for school nurses on adolescent substance abuse issues. The conference was informative and well received by 80 high school and middle school nurses. NYSASN Past President and SNO Chair Carol Bumbolow, MS, RN, NCSN, presented on “Health and Safety First — the ABCD’s of Substance Assessment.”
School nurse, Deborah Leach, RN, Yonkers School District, Zone 4, teaches the importance of breakfast to PTA parents. The information was also shared in Spanish by a translator from the school based clinic.
