Western New York Lead Poisoning Resource
The Western New York (WNY) Lead Poisoning Resource Center operates under the direction of pediatrician Dr. Stanley Schaffer and is located in Rochester, NY. It is one of five regional, NYSDOH funded, centers which cover the whole state.
Their goal is to educate NYS healthcare professionals about lead poisoning and help them manage elevated blood lead levels in children and pregnant women. Recently, they developed two resources which include important information for school nurses not just in the nine-county Finger lakes region but all across the New York State:
- A fact sheet about NYS School Nurses Access to Blood Lead Level History in the New York State Immunization Information System is below.
- Lead Poisoning in Children and Pregnant Women for NYS Healthcare Providers– an online interactive continuing education module. This material was developed by our Center with funding, input, and approval from the NYS Dept. of Health Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. It has sections specifically directed to NYS school nurses and can be viewed for 1.0 CNE credit. A registration link is below. Otherwise, a free version is also available below or by going on the website.
