The NYS Center for School Health is pleased to introduce our new Health Services Support Specialist, Melissa Trau BSN, RN.
In this position, Melissa will serve as the Center’s resource expert in providing technical assistance and professional development for NYS school healthcare professionals which align with state and national nursing standards, NYS laws, regulations and Office of Professions requirements. In addition, she will collaborate with NYSED to develop and disseminate research-based information and resources through the NYSCSH website and email subscriber list.
Melissa brings a wealth of experience having worked for Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES as a school nurse for the past 21 years. In that role, she provided nursing services for both general education and special education populations, pre-K to 21 years of age, as well as leading the BOCES team as Nursing Department Chair.
Her passion for school nursing started when she became a substitute nurse in a school district and saw the impact she could have on student’s health, well-being, and educational success.
We look forward to the initiatives she will bring to the Center in her new role at NYSCSH and she looks forward to the opportunity to meet and collaborate with NYS school nurses.
